SCANOSS at 2024 Events Worldwide

Reflecting on a Year of Collaboration and Growth

SCANOSS at 2024 events worldwide

As part of our commitment to open source, this year we had the privilege to take part in several events, each offering unique opportunities to engage with diverse communities around the world. These gatherings allowed us to share our open source solutions, connect with industry leaders, and draw inspiration from the innovative work of others. They also reaffirmed our commitment to transparency and meaningful collaboration within the open source ecosystem.

Community-oriented events have been a cornerstone of our year. From established conferences to newly reimagined gatherings, each occasion offered a valuable opportunity to engage with professionals and industry leaders, as well as reinforcing existing relationships, and further integrate SCANOSS within the global open source ecosystem.

"We met contributors who were new to SCA and SBOM concepts, and students eager to learn proving the importance of spreading these ideas."

One of the highlights included Open Community Experience (OCX) in Mainz, where we participated as sponsors proving our values and displayed our transparent approach to open source solutions. ("Disrupting SCA with OSS & Open Data"). The opportunity to engage with experts and decision-makers highlighted the evolving strength of the open source community. Similarly, our participation in FOSS-North in Gothenburg reaffirmed our connection to Scandinavian open source community, where our CTO reconnected with old colleagues and built meaningful new relationships. In this event we presented for the very first time our Cryptographic Algorithms Open Dataset.("A Journey to Open Data"

“OCX was deeply rooted in community, built around the companies' OSS experts. The bar was raised, yet the strong sense of community remained.”

In 2023, we shared what we had accomplished; in 2024, we actively demonstrated it. We displayed our software and emphasized the accessibility of our tools. As a result, attendees saw firsthand how SCANOSS’s solutions address real-world challenges and enable greater clarity in compliance and development workflows.

The SCANOSS team.

A particularly proud moment was being part of the Open Compliance Summit in Tokyo, where our team delivered a talk about the current state, impact, and future of the SPDX’s crypto algorithms list. This invitation-only event highlighted our integrity and provided a unique opportunity to meet with experts in a significant way. Another standout was the Open Source Summit Europe in Vienna, where we participated as Silver Sponsors, and our interactive booth activities and live demos drew strong interest and created valuable relationships.

"These events validate our Free Software and Open Data trajectory, and give us a big boost to keep improving "

At the Open Source Summit in Japan, we had the chance to connect with organizations and foundations deeply invested in open source practices,  and address the audience about using open-source solutions to build a license compliance knowledge base and detect violations ("Meeting Software License Compliance Policies During the Inbound Process").  These interactions have expanded our network and opened doors for relevant connections. For example, our engagement with the OpenAtom Foundation in China during Open Euler Summit in Beijing sparked further interest in our datasets, underscoring the growing global appetite for transparency and efficiency in software intelligence. Additionally, our collaboration with Bitergia during this event, reflected our ongoing commitment to open source, and the value we place on working together.

Throughout these external achievements, we also turned our focus inward. As a remote-only company with employees spanning four continents, Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa, our Portugal Workshop Week was an exceptional opportunity to bring the entire SCANOSS team together for a week of intensive learning and collaboration. Featuring insights from industry leaders, this gathering solidified our shared vision and set the stage for future innovations.

It was a reminder that while external connections fuel our growth, internal alignment drives our mission forward.

Looking Ahead

As 2024 ends, we take a moment to reflect on the valuable lessons and opportunities that shaped our journey. Each milestone reinforced key elements of our mission, motivating us to enhance our strategies and innovate our solutions to stay ahead in the open source ecosystem.

Grateful for the connections and achievements of the past year, we await the potential of 2025. Together, let us continue driving progress in software intelligence.

See you on February in FOSDEM 2025
